about

The two members of BLC met in 2015 on the Isle of Jura, where they worked on fishing boats and in pubs. After a memorable night in a local bar, they decided to leave their jobs and start making music.
Using a borrowed bark, they moved to the uninhabited Isle of Burnham, where they lived for one year in an abandonned farm where Ossian is said to have composed some of his darkest poetry, and where his ghost can sometimes be observed.
Surviving on fish and some basic farming, they spent most of their days writing, playing music, walking and daydreaming.
The songs of Inland Empire are the results of this year out of time, and are deeply rooted in the dark atmosphere , the radical isolation, and the rugged beauty of Burnham.
The members of BLC left the island after visiting geologists warned them that it was about to sink. As of today, the island lies 60 feet under the sea, and has been erased from most maps.
Inland Empire is dedicated to the memory of the Isle of Burnham, although no song can ever capture or celebrate the true nature and uncanny beauty of that lost territory.
It has been rumoured that the place actually never existed; the members of BLC respectfully dissent.

Track Name: Inland Empire
Sonnet Street I’m coming back, I have dreamt of you
Sunny skies have dried my hopes, may your shores be mine
Through the maze and cross the water, I’ll come back to you.

I crossed a hall and I took a left, I miss my home,
I saw a door and I took a look, I miss my home.

Sunny street I need your heat, I have looked for you
Some day I’ll find my old room and that’s where I’ll live
Through the times and past my sorrow, I’ll come back to you.
Track Name: Our Northern Hearts
Look at you now, my blue-eyed darling, the frost in your hair
Look at you now, my smiling angel, the snow in your skin.

We’ll drive through the storms, we’ll sleep in the rough
And we will trust our northern hearts.
We’ll walk through the towns, where no one knows us
And long may beat your northern heart!

I look at you now, my naked queen
I swim in your eyes, I walk through your hills,
I lay down with you, my head on your breast
That’s how I can hear your beating heart.

We’ll leave in the night, we won't tell no one
We’ll just follow our northern hearts.
We’ll walk through the hills, the ones with no names
And long may beat your northern heart!

No one will know what we are seeing
When a new dawn fades and lets the sun in;
Your body will be my only shelter
When the cold sets in and my soul starts shaking

The smile on your lips, the blue in your eyes
Will be our new country, the place where we breathe.

Like thieves in the night, we’ll walk in silence
And we’ll just hear our northern hearts.
And when we’re tired, I’ll build you a house
Where we can rest our northern hearts.
Track Name: Moonville
Every single street,
every single house that I walk by,
Your library and bus stops,
the people walking blindly by my side,
Every single girl whose smile just seems to hide the love inside,
Your harbour and your ships remind me of what I am missing here.

Give me a sign
Take me to the sunny side of Moonville
I’m ready to settle down
in the sunny side of Moonville.

You know I like your bars,
you know I like your cold and rainy nights;
You know I like your girls,
their summer dresses even when it’s cold.
I’ve got used to your blindness and
I’ve got used to your very tender numbness;
But every walk I take reminds me
of what I am looking for.

Point me at the sun
The sunny side of Moonville
Track Name: Tennis or Bombing
You’re making sense my lords, way too much sense, my lords !
You may police the streets, you may push your new bills,
You may punish and watch, you may do what you will,
We’ll do tennis or nothing...

But the world is still young, and our eyes can still see,
So for what it is worth, we’ll make love or do nothing,
Yes the day is still young, and our hearts can still beat
So whenever we please, we’ll do tennis or bombing.

There is a place I know,
way where the cars don’t go,
Where my heart can roam free, where my dreams may be kings,
Where the girls are so pretty, where their smiles can’t be tamed.
Track Name: To a Dancer
I remember you well, when the lights went out, your body so frail,
The floor was so dark, the rafters so high, but you were not afraid
when the lights went out.
Your body so frail, your face was a child’s, yet you did not shake...

And your smile so winning, your smile so true
And your eyes so friendly, beyond your years

Your body so frail, your face was a child’s, but you did not shake,
You took me by storm, you took me by joy, as I sat there smiling, my face was a child’s Yet you did not shake, you gave us your grace, as you moved so well.

I remember you well, when the lights went out, your body so frail,
The floor was so dark, the rafters so high, but you were not afraid
When the lights went out.
As you grow up and up,
how can you do that ?
You’ll forget what you were.

As you grow up and up, how can you do that?
You’ll forget what you were, but I’ll remember you.
Track Name: At Least You've Got the Song
At least you’ve got the song, the chords that make you dream,
The story not the truth, the places that you dreamed,
At least you have the words, the memories that you love,
The colours and the shapes, at least you’ve got the song.

And the tunes are on (on your radio)
Through the darkest days on your stereo
When your walkman’s on (or your radio)
You will hear the joy.

Bring on the dancing horses, we’ll dance the days away,
The tears of joy you’ll cry, will wash your soul for good,
Bring on the singing Jew, he’ll take the pain away,
His words will soothe your mind, his smile should win the day

The Commotions are gone, the boys of summer too,
The tunes are all that’s left, the melodies so pure.
A sparkle in the rain may be all that we need
A division of joy may be all that we fear.
Track Name: From the Park
What did you expect, a life within the dream,
Friends from the old school, a life within the womb ?
Say what did you get, a life without the sun
Ghosts from the old home, a life within the world ?

I dreamed my dreams in the wood that we feared,
I met my mate and we went up the hill,
And from that hill we thought we’d have it all.

What did you expect, a dance without an end,
A song without a bridge, a life within a room ?
See that’s what you get, a song without the words,
A map that you can't read, a life within the bonds.
Track Name: Consolation
She said I can take you there,
just leave your car, switch off your brain
Through the light and through the darkest heat,
You’ll find love and you’ll find peace, you see;

She said no one comes round here,
the river’s dry, the pain is gone
Through the light and through your darkest fears, Y
ou’ll find love and you’ll find peace, you see;

She took my hand and kissed my lips,
she wiped my tears and said to me
Through the light and through the darkest heat,
You’ll find love and you’ll find peace, you see.

She said we’ll just walk straight ahead,
in four or five days we’ll be there,
To the place of atonement.
I said we’ll just walk straight ahead,
in four or five days we’ll be dead!
She took my hand and smiled at me,
started to walk just her and me... T
o the place of atonement

She said I can take you there,
she said no one comes around here
She took my hand she kissed my lips,
she wiped my tears
She took my hand, she said to me,
the pain is gone...
To the place of atonement
(there is no place of atonement).
Track Name: To the Fairground
The town is dark, the streets are empty,
But she’s not afraid, she’s not even sad,
She walks the streets, knows where she’s going,
Her eyes start to shine...

At the fairground, she knows she will fly, she knows she will dream
At the fairground, she knows she will cry, she knows she will scream

When she gets there, her head feels so light,
She’s feeling so good, she’s feeling so free.
Her parents said : "That place is no good,
The girls who go there, you know what they’re like".

At the fairground, she knows she’ll escape,
she’ll feel her wings grow
At the fairground, she knows she’ll break rules,
might even break hearts...

Fly as high as you can
Run as far as you dare.

Her friends are there, they laugh and they shout,
They go for the fast rides, they want to be scared.
She sees the boy, the one that she’s loved,
Since she was a child...

At the fairground, she’s holding his hand for the very first time,
At the fairground, he kisses her mouth,
she don’t know where she is...

Fly as high as you can
Run as far as you dare
May, seize the day, take your life, while it’s here.
Track Name: Rite of Spring
Foreign Legion’s over, now you have the right to think
Winter days are over, don’t you care about a thing

Oh, here it comes, the right to sing
Oh, here it comes, the Rite of Spring

Heartless days have gone now, and the blood is coming back
Life is blooming somehow, and my heart is back on track

Winter’s never over, cause we know it will come back,
Let’s just keep on singing, so it smiles, and falls asleep
Track Name: Consolation Row
Some stops along the way, no one gets off or on,
And you know you’ll forget
all the things that you saw.
No one has paved the road, the light is getting dim
You don’t know where you’ll sleep,
in Consolation Row.

Lest I forget where I’m coming from, I’ll draw a map,
I’ll make up some names.
Since I forget where I'm going to
I’ll find a guidebook with my name on it.

All about Consolation Row
All about childhood and the things I saw.

Last stop is by the sea, the hotel looks run down
Angel behind the desk smiles
at you as she gets the key.
The sky is so empty,
the street seems to lie still
But you know what you’ll find
in Consolation Row.

You’ll be alone but you you may not mind
You’ll make some friends
among the trees and clouds,
You will be lost but you will not cry
You’ll write a guidebook with your name on it.

All about Consolation Row
All about childhood and the things you know

Angel behind the desk
will show you where to look,
Might even hold your hand
if she thinks that you can’t get by.
The sky will look so bright,
might even warm your bones
And you know you’ll belong in Consolation Row.

You may feel sad but you will not fret
You’ll find some rest among the friendly ghosts,
You will be stalled but you’ll feel no pain
You’ll write a story with your name on it.

All about Consolation Row
All about childhood and the things I saw.
Track Name: A Quiet Life
The life you dreamt of has gone
The fight’s been fought and been lost
The magic’s gone down the drain
And the dream girl’s disappeared
And at the end of the day / You know all you really need

Is the big sleep

The government said again / There is no cause for alarm
The government said again / If you want peace you need war
And at the end of the road / You’ll find that nothing can beat

The big sleep

Oh, a house that no one comes to
Oh, a dog that loves only you
A quiet life without no fear,
A quiet place to disappear

They said your life would be use/-ful for the ones around you
They said that things should improve
If you just pray hard enough
But when all is said and done / You know all you really get

Is the big sleep

I’ll walk as far as I can / I’ll walk as far as I dare
I’ll find a place in the woods / I’ll build some walls and a roof
And in the bed that I’ll make / I know I’ll really wait for

The big sleep

They say a god made the world / I find it hard to believe
They say we’ll all live in peace / I find it hard not to laugh
Unless what they really mean / Is all we have to wait for

Is the big sleep
